EDITORS’ NOTES

Snow Patrol’s seventh album had a lengthy gestation, for understandable reasons. In the seven years following 2011’s Fallen Empires, frontman Gary Lightbody struggled with alcoholism, depression, and writer’s block. He’s arrived at a better place via psychotherapy, acupuncture, and the unflinching soul-searching that runs through this record. There’s desperation in “What If This Is All the Love You Ever Get?” (“I’m in the ruins too/I know the wreckage so well”) and a heart-stopping vulnerability to “Soon,” an address to his dementia-stricken father. But Wildness marks a path out of, not into, darkness: The new-day optimism of “Heal Me” and “Life and Death” is complemented throughout by a band revitalizing their stadium-ready alt-rock with electronic flourishes and strains of folk and R&B.

About time...but?

I hate the F bomb more than anything in music. NOT impressed by taking a beautifully orchestrated song, and putting a word that now strips you from millions of people to hear. How has U2, coldplay, The Killers, and even now Imagine Dragons been able to be so successful? I loved you from the very first Snow Patrol album to The Reindeer Section, but come on? I want to share your music with every age because it deserves to be shared with everyone.

Long wait for this?

Terrible first song. I hope the new album is better.
No need to cuss.

This album is a very intersesting return to form

Following "Fallen Empires", Snow Patrol delivers one of the most personal long plays I've heard in a dizzy. This record really rollicks and is the sound the world needs. For Snow Patrol to get even more personal is quite an unbelievable feat, as they are already extremely personal. This long play will make you want to get up and shake it, but also read a book about Napoleon. There is nothing like Snow Patrol. Five Stars.
