It's Winter Again: Another Single For TAI

I find it amazing that less than two weeks ago I saw them play live where William Beckett played this acoustic. He said they wrote it a couple days prior, and now look where it is- recorded, accompained by a piece of Butcher's gorgeous artwork, and on iTunes. Can you utter the word 'dedication'? Props to The Academy Is... Forever they will be my favorite band, and one of the reasons is right here. They are on top of their game and care about their fans. Thanks, guys. The song sends chills down my spine in want of a warm fire and your jacket. Happy Holidays.

it's amazing!

When I first heard this on myspace, I actually cried. This song is really sweet and the music is great too, Butcher did a good job on the cover work too. Best line vv vv vv So you've found a friend. You spend all your cold nights with him, but if I was there, then I'd wonder why you still wear my jacket closed with traces of my scent

100% TAI; do download it!

Almost anyone that saw The Academy Is... this fall on the Bill and Trav's Bogus Journey tour knows how amazing this song is live. What none of us really realised was its capability of being a full fledged song. TAI has had some ups and downs the past few years, as any seasoned fan knows, and recently they have caught a new high with Fast Times at Barrington High. Despite the success of the album, it left many fans and critics wondering if they would keep the new sound or not, and I'm not sure even TAI knows the answer to that. Just playing around on the guitar seems to work for these guys, and they really are amazing at it. Beckett's songwriting is adorable on Winter Passing, a song that has been more favourable among those loyal listeners on LiveJournal and Santi's Little Helpers than even FTABH. TAI took some rather hard hits from critics of FTABH and this song might have turned some of them. In keeping with the more pop sound, Winter Passing is a little more positive than old TAI songs, a far cry from the old EP. It has big sound, something that TAI has been known for, and good lyrics and composition; moreover, this is definitely a song that I, or any of you, could listen to over and over again. It certainly owes to their old music and ties into their new style perfectly, surely this song is one hundred percent TAI. If you take time to appreciate the fact that TAI wrote the song acousticly originally and recorded it on their bus near the end of BJ tour, the song's grandeur is even greater. This one's for those who truly know good music, the influences in the guitar tone one the album are certainly good ones. It might even be enough to send chills down your spine, certainly does to mine. Check out the videos on YouTube if you really need to hear the song acoustic, it's simply amazing. I don't think any of us could have thought the song would get any better than we heard it acoustic live, but TAI surprises and delights us yet again. I'm rather proud of the boys, they've come a long way and deserve every bit of praise they receive and use every bit of criticism. Truly another spectacular song from one of the best bands of our day.

Biography

Formed: 2003 in Hoffman Estates, IL

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Formerly in rival bands on the Chicago local scene, guitarist Mike Carden and vocalist William Beckett came together in 2003 to mark the beginning of emo-pop outfit the Academy Is... (originally named "the Academy"). Naming influences from U2 to Weezer to Pink Floyd, the duo added bassist Adam Siska (Beckett's classmate from high school), along with a second guitarist and drummer, to record 2004's The Academy EP for hometown label LLR Recordings. As luck would have it, fellow Chicagoan Pete Wentz...
