Album Review

This is a pleasing, if rather brief (29 minutes) Christmas jazz album that was originally quite popular. Reissued on a 1982 LP, the set features the Ramsey Lewis Trio (consisting of the leader/pianist, bassist Eldee Young, and drummer Red Holt) on ten Christmas songs, five of which add a string section arranged by Riley Hampton. The renditions of such tunes as "Winter Wonderland," "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Sleigh Ride," and Lewis' "Christmas Blues" are fun and melodic, if not all that unique.

Great Jazz Holiday Classic

This is ALWAYS the first Christmas CD I break out every year. Each song swings and moves like a living, breathing part of the season. You can not go wrong with this as part of your holiday collection.

A Jazzy Xmas

I originally was turned on to this album by my late father who was a jazz junky when I was a kid in the late 60's and early 70's. I didn't think much of it until the late 90's trying to relive my youth. I had to order it and it took almost a year to get. It was worth the wait. Memories of old. Great old standards done by a jazz master. You will definetly get in the holiday spirit with this awesome but yes short disk. Enjoy!!

Be of Good Cheer

A holiday jazz album guaranteed to put you in the spirit of the season.

Lewis was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 27, 1935, and was introduced to music by his father, who directed the choir at a local church and enjoyed the music of Duke Ellington and Art Tatum. Lewis began studying the piano when he was four years old, and was soon accompanying the choir at Sunday...
