EDITORS’ NOTES

Anchored by The Shins' "New Slang," the soundtrack to Zach Braff's Garden State introduced winsome indie rock to a wider audience. Braff tops himself for the soundtrack to that film's follow-up, Wish I Was Here. He recruited the dormant Shins to pen a new original song, the soaring, characteristically catchy "So Now What." Equally impressive is the unprecedented pairing of Cat Power and Coldplay on the title track, a melancholy piano ballad that recalls Randy Newman's ability to capture a film's essence with a single song. As with Garden State's track list, some of the highlights here are from smaller names, such as "The Mute" by Radical Face and "Mexico" by folk-pop troupe Jump Little Children. Then again, "Heavenly Father," a new original tune from the ethereal crooner Bon Iver, is pretty cool too.

Already in love!

flightless nerd,

Zach Braff is AMAZING when it comes to soundtracks. He knows how to give scenes extra life and how to perfectly compliment certain scenes through the music. His love of the project or movie effortlessly and adoringly shines through the soundtrack. He really is a rare talent in this business (he's an amazing actor, brilliant writer, director and producer). That's how I knew that I was going to fall in love with the "Wish I Was Here" soundtrack before I ever even heard it. I fell in love with "So Now What" by The Shins the instant I heard it in the trailer. I'm one of the Kickstarter backers for the film and am so, so, so proud to be a part of it (even if it's only a small part). I think that's why "So Now What" really hits me on an emotional level. If this beautiful (and original) song is any indication of how amazing the rest of the soundtrack will be (and we all know it is), I will be so happy. And it is definitely worth preordering. Trust me, preorder this album before you see the movie. You'll want to start listening to this soundtrack the minute the credits start rolling and you will be so happy that you thought ahead and already have the soundtrack on your iPod or iPhone (or both!) to fall in love with all over again. All of these artists are so amazing and will bring that extra something special to the film (as all perfect soundtracks do). This soundtrack will be an instant classic and will have the same success and following that the "Garden State" soundtrack had (and still has). You'll be saying "You gotta hear this one song, it'll change your life, I swear." about each and every one of these songs. <3

Backing was worth it

Ben4mn,

I absolutely adored Garden State, and this blew me away even more. Backing this movie was a wonderful decision! The soundtrack is a beautiful blend of emotions and feelings.
