Editors’ Notes

This collection contains several remixes by the band’s main producer Brendan O’Brien that strip the songs of their initial gloss and serve as a well-selected overview of their first twelve years. Several important non-LP cuts like “State of Love and Trust” and “Last Kiss,” are included alongside quirky tracks such as “Yellow Ledbetter” and “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town,” and band staples like “Jeremy,” “Daughter,” and “Even Flow.”

I'd Like To Buy A Clue As To Why...

AT LEAST ON 8/11/07, THIS ALBUM IS CLASSIFIED AS POP??!! This album, along with an even more disturbing choice, Alice In Chain's Dirt, are in the godforsaken pop category. Can they be any farther from pop. People who listen to pop don't listen to songs like Jeremy or Not For You. On a lighter note, it's great that Pearl Jam's Greatest Hit Collaboration is a 2 disc set, and the way the rockers are on the first CD and the ballads are on the second works great. Pearl Jam has always been an underrated band in terms of their musicianship like with guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready. Eddie Vedder is an incredible singer, as his lyrics just have so much power, meaning, and feeling. Definitely the best meaningful lyric band in rock history, and a great rock band nonetheless. I suggest the whole CD, but at least get Once, Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, Go, Rearviewmirror, Not For You, Black, Breath, Daughter, Betterman, Who You Are, Yellow Ledbetter, and especially Light Years.

Formed: 1990 in Seattle, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After Mother Love Bone's vocalist, Andrew Wood, overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on drums. Thanks to future Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, the demo found its way to a 25-year-old San Diego surfer named Eddie Vedder, who overdubbed...
