EDITORS’ NOTES

Chris Stapleton follows his 2015 solo breakthrough—the CMA and GRAMMY®-winning Traveller—with an album that should appeal to every generation of country listener. Recorded in Nashville at RCA Studio A, the same legendary space where bearded forebears like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson cut classics, From A Room: Volume 1 is a spare yet soulful showcase for Stapleton’s remarkable voice, whether he’s rumbling through roadhouse rock ("Second One to Know”), showing his emotional range atop a gorgeous, fingerpicked guitar figure (“Either Way”), or harmonizing with his equally talented wife, Morgane (“Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning”).

Chris Stapleton is saving country music

"Saving country music?" you ask, pointing out that country music is more popular now than its ever been. Well, that's true but to reach these heights it has increasingly become just pop music sung with a southern accent. And, yes, some of it is very good, but I don't think Hank done it this way. Chris Stapleton not only embraces the traditions of country music, but shows when an artists as talented as he is isn't afraid of those traditions, something nevertheless new, innovative and wholly original can, and indeed is the result.
