iTunes Review

Thirty-three studio albums and Elton John and his trusted copilot, Bernie Taupin, are still making the soundtrack of our lives. Rock ‘n’ roll is the key motivator here. “Blue Wonderful” is wrapped in guitars and features a solo from album producer T Bone Burnett. “Guilty Pleasure” is raucous fun. Taupin’s deft lyrical touch shines on “I’ve Got 2 Wings” and “The Open Chord,” both flush with clever turns of phrase. “A Good Heart” is pure Elton balladry—heartfelt feelings framed by his timeless voice. “Looking Up” expresses gratitude with characteristic flair, like a 2016 version of “I’m Still Standing.” Wonderful Crazy Night shows that rock ‘n’ roll remains Elton John’s North Star.

Customer Reviews

Completely forgetable...mercifully

I forgot this tune seconds after enduring it...thank you God. I have every album and have had since 1974. I think this will end my relationship with Elton John's attempts at new music. I was told once to not say anything...lest I can say anything nice. I simply can't and that is very upsetting. I'm going to listen to Captain Fantastic and remember how Wonderful and Crazy those times were for me with Elton John's music by my side. Goodbye Norma Jean and take this album with you.

Looking up

I just don’t get it. Sir Elton knows more about music than anyone on the planet, so surely he can listen to this single and think, not good enough, try again or don’t put anything out. Maybe he’s listening to too many yes men around him telling him its good, and reading some of these reviews, allegedly some people do think its good! As the once upon a time self proclaimed biggest EJ fan of all time, I just have to console myself that every dog has its day, Sir Elton certainly had his and we have the albums to prove it and cherish.

The new single shows promise

Hopefully the new single shows the direction of the upcoming album. While I certainly enjoyed The Diving Board and especially The Union it's time for Elton to pick it up a bit.

Elton John was the biggest pop star of the '70s, grabbing headlines and generating hits throughout the world. As it turned out, this was merely the first act in a remarkable career that kept him at the top of the charts for over 25 years. He charted a Top 40 hit single every year between 1970 and 1996, a sign that he knew how to both change with the times and mold the times to fit him. Initially marketed as a singer/songwriter, John soon revealed he could craft Beatlesque pop and pound out rockers...
