EDITORS’ NOTES

The Hawaiian singer known affectionately as Bruddah Iz was still being mourned when this respectful reworking of outtakes was released 10 years after his premature passing. In tribute to 1950s exotica, arranger Jon de Mello layers lush strings over Iz’s sweet interpretations of global pop favorites, highlighted by the children’s lullaby “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” (recast as a nocturnal lament) and the island pride waltz of “A Hawaiian Like Me.” It’s all graced with the singer’s delightful ukulele, of course.

Excellent Work

I bought this to complete the collection but I was hardly looking forward to hearing the traditional and familiar sounds of IZ accompanied by an orchestra as the album was billed. Then I listened. This is fantastic. The lyrics and uke are crystal clear, and the accompaniments fit each song wonderfully. This is not only a testament to the great talent, hard work, and timeless nature of the big guy, but it speaks volumes to the production capabilities of Mr. De Mello and the folks at Mountain Apple. IZ' music has gotten longer legs. Mahalo.

Eo Israel Kamawiwaole!

Aloha and Mahalo to John Demello and Mountain Apple Records for helping the aloha and the music of this wonderful man live on for all of us to enjoy and appreciate. This album is beautifully produced and a true masterpiece! Israel, his music and his mana will continue to be very precious and cherished gifts of Aloha to Hawaiian people everywhere and the people of Hawaii.

Heaven Sent

I was a little unsure of this one. I have been an IZ fan far sooner than his music hit the mainland via commercials and movie soundtracks. The loss of this voice is a true tradegy but these arraingments are a wonderful companion to Iz' passion. Ya, so we would all love some new songs, but we'll never get that. But we do have a new way to appreciate what we already have. If your an Iz fan, you'll own this one. If your a new fan, you want be disappointed. This one not only takes you back to Hawaii, it takes you right next to Iz' side as he looks down upon his island home...
