Ahead of their time

Both of the albums are phenomenal they are very ahead of their time. If you like OK computer or A kid from Radiohead, then Doves are or you.

Yeah, they kinda rock. ;)

Very understate title of my review but this is a powerful band that was ahead of their time. Take a listen to the full album and you will know what I'm talking about. I'm happy to have rediscovered them now. The amount of layers in each song is simply incredible, incredible. Agree with the other review on radio head influence.

Empty air

There is NOTHING more irritating than the big silences at the end of tracks! What purpose do they serve, other than being incredibly, hugely irritating? It’s such a great album, ruined by the opposite of music, which is silence! This album deserves 5 stars, but the silence wins with 2

Before embracing Brit-pop in the late '90s, Doves' three members -- vocalist/bassist Jimi Goodwin, guitarist Jez Williams, and drummer Andy Williams -- figured prominently in the Madchester scene, where they scored a Top Five single as part of the dance combo Sub Sub. "Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)" peaked at number three in the U.K., but Sub Sub failed to produce any significant follow-up hits, and a fire destroyed their recording studio in February 1995.
