Album Review

Midwestern black metal act Nachtmystium could be considered one of the more experimental bands of their scene, tirelessly exploring different modes of sound and infusing their dark metal bent with elements of ambience, psychedelia, and neo-folk. This vinyl-only collection pairs two of the band's early EPs, 2004's Eulogy and 2008's Worldfall. The tracks here do a great job of revealing Nachtmystium's shifting nature, with re-recordings of album tracks, raw recording techniques, slow, simmering metal dirges, and unlikely cover versions of songs by Death in June and Ildjarn.
