iTunes Review

In putting together a soundtrack for his adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, the beloved children’s book by Maurice Sendak, director Spike Jonze commissioned Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to compose original songs for the film. The “Kids” are a cast of indie rockers assembled by O that includes members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Liars, Deerhunter, and the Raconteurs, as well as a chorus of actual children. Like the story itself, the album is sweet and tender (“All Is Love,” “Hideaway,” “Food Is Still Hot”) with moments of wild abandon thrown in (“Rumpus,” “Animal,” “Heads Up”). About half of the tracks are moving instrumentals that revolve around acoustic guitar and light humming, while the other half are fully orchestrated folk-pop songs with sing-along choruses, hand claps, and exuberant “woo-hoos.” It’s a wonderful combination that beautifully captures the innocence, playfulness, and mystery of being a child. The well-written and arranged songs also work well as a work of art independent of the film. In short, it’s a joyous, heartfelt rumpus pleasing to kids and adults alike.

Let the Wild Rumpus Begin!

Please keep in mind that the music on the soundtrack directly accents the film. This isn't just some hot track soundtrack meant to thicken the wallets of some trendster artist on the pop charts. Buyers prepare yourself to feel the emotional rolleroast of what will be an amazing film!

Karen O is more recognizable as a punk/rock goddess on stage, however fans will discover a whole alternate side to this innovative songstress/musician.

The heart-pumping bass mixed with vocals just make you want to join in on the rumpus! Plus collaborations with other fellow artists gives this screen adaptation the kick it needs to transition onscreen. HOWEVER, beware this albumn isn't a conventional soundtrack, and people may not love Ms. O's unpolished vocals. It's in my opinion that Karen O delivers the goods with styling the tone of the film with her music. It completely feels like this soundtrack achieves not just it's promise to compliment the film, but capture the voice of the story itself.

Life is loud, mysterious, and full of unexpected twists. All these complex feelings that come with growing up, and being jaded in life just surface itself in the music. I really hope she gets as many award nods for her contributions to this albumn.

5 Stars are not enough!

no Arcade Fire

Im really disappointed that they didnt release Arcade Fire's new version of Wake Up that was retooled for this trailer. Its such a great song and I have been waiting for the release of the full soundtrack for this movie just to get that song.

Lovely.

This is such a simple yet complex album, and I can't wait for the movie to come out. I really love the child-like feel to the album, and it's appealing to both adults and children in my opinion.
