X Communication Trilogy 2 by Brand X

This band was NOT a Phil Collin's "side project". Phil played well with them, but was not by any stretch the focal point, nor was he terribly missed when he left. This group of musicians stayed together for a long time and produced unselfish "Brand X" music. Was it prog rock? Jazz Fusion? It fits either, both, neither! It is Brand X. I would rather hear John Goodsall than Clapton, Hendrix, Page...Scofield, Abercrombie, etc. He has mad solo and rhythm chops, a heavy hand where called for and a delicate but funky rhythm when it isn't. Percy Jones on bass could stand on a stage with the likes of Jaco P and S.Clarke, and the tasteful keys of Robin Lumley create atmospheres through which the others can travel along with him... add percussionist Morris Pert who will hit anything if it sounds good, and you are in for a good mental flossing!

Decent, solid prog-rock...

A nice collection of tunes with some substance, not a we-only-put-some-chords-together-so-we-could-solo album. Percy Jones (bass) is a great mix of Jaco & Mick Karn with his fluid lines and creative use of harmonics. This one is mostly a guitar/bass/drums trio, with keys popping in here and there. <John Goodsall: guitar, Frank Katz: drums (FYI: This was Phil Collin's 70's side project - but he's not on this album)>

play loud

To see Brand X live is to witness incredible musicians enjoying what they do. This is an amazing band!! They may play fast but they are one of the tightest bands I’ve ever witnessed.

Brand X were a British jazz-rock fusion outfit formed by Genesis drummer Phil Collins and Atomic Rooster guitarist John Goodsall as a side project from their regular groups. Their initial lineup also included keyboardist Robin Lumley and bassist Percy Jones (the Liverpool Scene, the Scaffold). Brand X's debut album, Unorthodox Behaviour, was released in 1976; a live album, Livestock, and the studio effort Moroccan Roll followed in 1977. Collins left the group to concentrate on Genesis, and for 1978's...
