Album Review

There are some extreme metal bands that appear to have one single goal in sight, and that is to be deemed "the heaviest band on the planet." Well, Cephalic Carnage are certainly one of those bands in the front running for this title, as they've made a career out of pushing sonic boundaries. "So heavy it hurts" is a fitting description for their 2007 release, Xenosapien, which is one long, rapid-fire metallic frenzy from beginning to end. You'll become breathless just listening to the musical acrobatics on display throughout such tracks as "Divination & Volition," and you'll get a lump in your throat hearing how screamer Lenzig Leal pushes his vocal cords over the limit on "Touched by an Angel." Metal never sounded as precise nor as consistently punishing from beginning to end as it does throughout Xenosapien. The perfect soundtrack to listen to the next time you're sitting in the waiting room of your local dungeon's torture chamber.

Customer Reviews

Don't buy it from iTunes....

The first track is the last half of the 2nd track and the 2nd track starts at the end of the 1st track.... Buy the album from Amazon or Best Buy like I did. Back to the album, this is a gread hybrid of all things metal: death/grind/jazz/progressive.... If you want some good ol' Rocky Mountain HydroGrind, look no further. The album get 5/5, iTunes version, 1/5. For fans of: The Black Dahlia Murder, Mr. Bungle, Cannibal Corpse, Dillinger Escape Plan....

sick album but itunes messed up

endless cycle of violence isnt right. If you goto the bands myspace, that song is different. Tracks 1 and 2 are the same song, chopped in half... i wanna know how to report this and get my money back.

I never got into Cephalic Carnage. But this album has changed my entire view on this band. The songs on this album are awsome. I listened to Endless Cycle of Violence on HardAttack, and that song just made me buy this album.

Years Active: '90s, '00s

This crazy concoction of truly experimental grindcore, death metal, and jazz came together in Denver, CO, in 1992. Founding members Lenzig (vocals) and Zak (guitar) put together a demo entitled Scrape My Lungs in 1993 and then took a break until 1996 when they recruited John (drums), Steve (guitar), and Doug (bass). Soon after their reformation they released a second demo, Fortuitous Oddity, and then hit the road on a self-financed tour across the U.S. in 1997. It was during this tour that the band's...
