iTunes Review

Still dishing out the reliable anthems they’ve specialized in since the early ’80s, San Francisco’s Metal Church embrace their age on XI—on opener “Reset” they wail about turning the page on their final stage. Yet they’re as dynamic as ever, shaping songs into smart, idiosyncratic structures. The downcast “Soul Eating Machine” and totally rockin’ “Suffer Fools” kick back at foes, but “Shadow,” sung from the viewpoint of its titular gray cloud “sneaking up behind you,” might swing hardest.

A Parishioner to the Church Again!

Hearing Watch the Children Pray from the first album made me a fan. Hearing ALL of Blessing in Disguise made me a fanatic. The Human Factor made me a believer. Sorry to say I later left the Church. When I heard Mike Howe was back I was born again. So far IX sounds like the second coming of Metal Church!!! \m/

Time to go back to CHURCH!

Having been a fan since the start, I have enjoyed ALL of the incarnations of Metal Church. David Wayne, Mike Howe, Ronny Munroe, ALL have been great in their way. That being said, this new , revisited lineup, along with masterful writing and production, seems to be just what we ALL have been looking for! A wonderful throwback to the glory days, with a new vigor and drive that looks to remind the "New Metallers" that THIS IS METAL! Hats off to Kurdt and the crew!!!! Welcome back Mike!

Back in the day

I've always been a fan annd have seen them a couple of times back in the day when you could go to killer shows at the Rainbow Mucis Hall in Denver (now at GD Walgreens!) for 5 bucks. This is a GREAT album and the memories flow heavily while listening to it. Nice to know the genre lives and bands like Metal Church are still capable of keeping what was my fav music going strong. Cheers!!

Their 1985 self-titled debut album, recorded when the thrash/speed metal genre was still evolving, made a huge splash on the scene, as did its similar follow-up, The Dark. However, the band really hit its stride when Wayne left and was replaced by Mike Howe on 1989's Blessing In Disguise; Vanderhoof left after the album due to his...
