22 Songs, 1 Hour

EDITORS’ NOTES

Coming out of Detroit, Danny Brown has been getting a lot of hype online, making an impact with his hyper-extremist shock rap. Following up his popular mixtape Hybrid, XXX definitely lives up to its title, with 22 tracks almost exclusively about general over-the-top debauchery. Production-wise, we get an oddball mix of haphazard synths, chunky beats, and tweaked samples, while his spastic, high-pitched, near-yelling flow comes off sounding like Mickey Avalon meets ICP meets early X-Raided. Check out "Detroit187," "Fields," and "Pac Blood."
