iTunes Review

The Yellow Submarine Songtrack is a 15-song overview of The Beatles at their most fantastic and cinematic. The songs featured here are among the band’s most lucidly realized, containing tracks from Revolver, Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band as well as deeper cuts from the catalog, such as “Hey Bulldog” and “All Together Now.” This album contains the songs heard in the original 1968 film, many of which were not included on the original soundtrack. Whether you’re just looking to revisit memories of the classic film or just get an overview of the band at their psychedelic peak, this is an unbeatable collection.

The remastering of the Beatles catalogue (for both stereo AND mono) a couple of years ago was a great thing, and long overdue.
But, this collection, the YELLOW SUBMARINE SOUNDTRACK, was actually way ahead of it's time. Done in the late 1990's, what was done here is what SHOULD have been done during the remastering process: that is, re-MIX the recordings.
For once, "Eleanor Rigby" sounds the way it should sound (perfect balance of vocal in the middle, orchestral instrumentation off to the side channels). Ditto for almost every other track included here. Balance is the key: Drums and bass center, everything else in it's proper stereo soundstage.
The Beatles never cared about real stereo separation for most of their recording career (which is why one should try to get the MONO remasters-- all their work from 1963 till SGT. PEPPER-- was mixed FOR mono...stereo mixes were afterthoughts, done by engineers without the Beatles even present most of the time). Why? In the 1960's, most teenagers (which the music was geared to) didn't have elaborate stereo systems. They had simple, mono record players.
What is done here is brilliant-- real care taken by the engineers and production team, using the basic tracks to create a stereo sound that, had the Beatles recorded these songs today (or 1999, or whenever this CD was originally released), it would have sounded like THIS.
The mixing also brings out the vocals and instrumentation in a way that you never experienced before. The clarity is amazing.
Again, the remastered catalogue is fantastic. But, the next step should be doing to the rest of the Beatles recordings what was done here.
When you listen to "Eleanor Rigby" or "Nowhere Man" from this soundtrack, you'll never want to listen to the "official" releases on REVOLVER and RUBBER SOUL ever again.

Fab Collection

Remixed in ture stereo sound..The instruments are more focused and vibrant. Ringo`s drums are in the center and Paul`s bass really shines..

1000 times better than the crap music coming out now.. I LOVE YOU BEATLES!! <3

Formed: 1957 in Liverpool, England

Years Active: '60s

So much has been said and written about the Beatles -- and their story is so mythic in its sweep -- that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously...
