Editors’ Notes

Ben Kweller completes his transformation from whiz kid to pop-music pro on his fifth solo release. He’s a music veteran at just 30 years old, yet his experiences haven’t made him predictable. Kweller’s many influences converge on Go Fly a Kite, smoothly shifting from fist-pumping power pop (“Mean to Me,” “Jealous Girl,” “Free,” “Time Will Save the Day”) to a piano waltz (“Gossip”) and a moving ballad (“The Rainbow”). The country influence revealed on 2009’s Changing Horses is heard in the jangly “Out the Door,” “You Can Count on Me,” and the pedal steel–driven “I Miss You.” The 11 tracks are upbeat and energetic, and even when he deals with weightier subjects Kweller manages an optimistic lyrical tone. Featuring irresistible melodies and easy hooks, Go Fly a Kite reveals an expert craftsman at work.

Customer Reviews

A fine album!

While the music is catchy and fun what is even more fun is that the PDF Digital Booklet is a songbook with all the chords for the songs! How cool is that. Been playing along with each song. Big time bonus for those inclined. Thank you!

Ben's biggest skill is versatility. I love the diversity of his albums and this is another great example of it.

He also played piano, and by the age of eight, Kweller had begun penning his own songs. The following year, he received a nod of encouragement from...
