A truly 'Supreme' collection - - -

It's about time someone broke down the door to the Motown vault and rescued these rare recordings from obscurity. It's intriguing to hear alternate versions of already familiar Supremes classics like 'Love Child' and 'Someday We'll Be Together' along with great covers of other Motown songs as well as aborted album and single tracks that are now seeing the light of day. This is a MUST HAVE collection for any true R&B/Soul fan. Diana Ross and The Supremes were true trailblazers and this new collection is just another jewel in their already glittering legacy.

A great twist on your favorites!

This album is an absolute MUST-HAVE for those who love The Supremes. These songs are burned into our minds, with every single sigh, scoop and lilt of the ladies' voices. It is so interesting to hear these different versions, some with completely different lyrics (Love Child). Each alternate version has a slightly different feel than what your ear is used to hearing. In some cases they illustrate the development of the tune to its final, radio played version. There are even a few out-takes that allow you to imagine the recording session. I love it. My highest recommendation.

Why No Booklet

When I learned of this set being available on hip-o-select's web site, I was hoping it wouldn't be long before iTunes would make it available for download. Well, here it is. Unfortunately, there is no digital booklet included. So...I will still have to order it through regular mail, after all. I mean...c'mon...never-before-seen pictures of The Supremes are as important to me as their previously unreleased gems.

Biography

The most successful black performers of the '60s, the Supremes for a time rivaled even the Beatles in terms of red-hot commercial appeal, reeling off five number one singles in a row at one point. Critical revisionism has tended to undervalue the Supremes' accomplishments, categorizing their work as more lightweight than the best soul stars' (or even the best Motown stars'), and viewing them as a tool for Berry Gordy's crossover aspirations. There's no question that there was about as much pop as...
