9 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Galvanized by their favorite American records, The Rolling Stones ripped the top off rock attitude on 1969’s Let It Bleed. With its ominous, patterned intro, “Gimme Shelter” heralds a whole new genre: apocalyptic soul-blues. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is a luminous gospel-soul finale that’s balanced by “Country Honk” and “You Got the Silver,” a pair of scruffy acoustic jams. For all its grandeur, the album’s lifeblood is its pungent, snakelike grooves: “Midnight Rambler,” “Live With Me,” and the churning, lascivious title track.

Weird Price

Look, it’s a great album (obviously), but why is it $11.99? That’s like $1.33 per song. It’s cheaper to buy all the songs separately than it is to buy the entire album… doesn’t make sense. You should get a discount for buying the whole thing.

20 Feet from Stardom

Just saw the movie which featured the singer on backup vocals on 'Gimme Shelter’. Seeing and understanding the process of backup vocals adds so much more depth to the song. Classic rock music would have had far less of an impact without the ‘colored’ girls.

Don't skip over this one.

Whenever I'm asked what my favorite album of all time is, I always say it's this one. Listening to Let It Bleed for the first time was definitely a spiritual experience. If you're a fan of music, you have to listen to it. Pure brilliance.
