Wow.

Speaking as a lifelong fan of Company, and a huge fan of Raul Esparza, this album is flat out amazing. I have every album of Company, and this is by far the best. Buy this whole album. If you like music theatre, you must get this.

Company Re-Imagined

There are some stunning moments on this recording, especially Raul Esparza singing, "Marry Me a Little" and "Being Alive". The ensemble work is very satisfying. Beyond the vocal talent, the instrumental accompaniment that is provided by the actors is sometimes incredible (but at other times, mediocre). The least satisfying portion of this show is the deadening dialogue that permeates some of the songs; especially the otherwise wonderful number "Another Hundred People". At least this is a faithful recreation of the problem plaguing the Broadway show. The orchestrations by Mary-Mitchell Campbell are masterfully done; listen to "Side By Side" towards the end and realize that there are only a handful of actor/musicians playing instruments while the rest are singing. It is brilliant! I would highly recommend this recording. If you have never heard “Company” before it is difficult to judge what is really on these tracks due to the bad excerpts that iTunes has provided. A couple of these are nothing but dialogue or reprises when there is a real song going on at some point. Trust me, it is worth the download….

as good as it gets

I went to see this production once, and thought it was great. But I wasn't sure if it was really was great or all the fans in the theater thought so just because we were so glad to hear the music live again. So I went back. And this arrangement, and the performance of it, really is remarkable--especially Esparza. No cast recording can capture the experience of a live performance. But this one is as good as it gets. Get it.
