Album Review

Released a year before her breakthrough album FMA, the Memo EP introduced Grace's soulful pop. Her cover of Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me," which features a cameo by rapper G-Eazy, exemplifies her blend of classic pop, hip-hop and R&B. Elsewhere, she cultivates a funky vibe on "Dirty Harry," which sounds like Amy Winehouse gone trip-hop; "Feel Your Love" boasts a gorgeously silky melody, and the demo of "Boyfriend Jeans" that closes the EP shows off her way with words ("I was your B and you were my Jay-Z"). All in all, Memo proves that FMA's success wasn't a fluke.

Astounding

Grace has such a cool sound that almost can't be described. All I've been able to form is a mix between Tori Kelly and Emeli Sandé, with a slightly more R&B vibe. "Dirty Harry" is a great opener with a jazzy and fun vibe complete with a great buildup and drop before the chorus. "Feel Your Love" is a standout on the EP which has fantastic vocals and lyrics. The production on this track is indescribably great. "You Don't Own Me (feat. G-Eazy)" is a rendition of Lesley Gore's 1963 hit. However, you would never know due to Grace's talented revamping. She keeps a retro vibe in the chorus but adds in two verses by G-Eazy and a modern R&B spin. "The Honey" is my personal favorite due to its fun upbeat production. This is easily a song you'll see teenagers blasting in the car and rolling down the street. Grace's rapping/singing in the verses is a cool feature, added in with her impeccable vocals mixed in. Be ready for this song to be played on the radio. The EP ends with "Memo (Boyfriend Jeans)", which is a soulful ballad. This track was the perfect way to end the EP, and you just have to listen to understand the power of Grace's vocals. Her heartfelt ballad is displayed with a retro production through her choice to sound raw in a studio with an almost buzzy and "cheap" sound, but it works.

This EP is seriously fantastic. Listen. Spend the $3.99. Support this artist who is bound to blow up very soon.

You don't own me.

Well...the retro feel of this can be attributed to the late Leslie Gore as "You don't own me" was her song in the 60s. Just FYI for those who like it. Lol

Great Talent

She’s a great vocalist. Retro-feel to her music.
