Unter Null: The Failure Epiphany

Unter Null is the fiercest industrial terror noise producer in the gothic industrial scene! She's often been described as the female version of the Suicide Commando League! "And if against all beliefs the Demon was a She?" If you're into the industrial/electro club scene, I higly suggest purchasing this album.

Brilliant and Mad...

Erica Dunham, aka Unter Null, is one of the most singularly brilliant performers to whom I've ever listened. Her style is her own, and while so many "goth" or industrial musicians out there have gotten mired in a style which is repetitive at best, derivative at slightly worse, or downright ridiculous at worst, Unter Null is a rarity in this genre, as she has a true artistic vision and voice. Comparisons to Suicide Commando have become commonplace. Her sound is her own, and sometimes it's rather scary, but it's liberating and real. If comparisons must be made, I would like to suggest one other brilliant artist, Rudy Ratzinger, also the sole member of the often-amazing :wumpscut:. Her recent reorganization to include Tony Young of Autoclav1.1 (also sole member and an incredible artist himself) promises to produce even better work, if that's possible... Do not miss this album, if you have any way in hell of getting it (but don't copy/burn it - she deserves to be paid for her work). You will not regret it.

If you're in it for the sound...

I saw Erica play last year on tour and she was great, although for the most part the backing 'band' was the guy from C/A/T checking his email. Those of you who have seen this scene get overrun with live iBook artists know exactly what I'm talking about.

That said, she's got a great sound and because there's not too much variation from song to song it's very easy to jam out to. There's a lot of depth here as well...multi-layered tracks that resemble something like Suicide Commando or even P9's "Crown Thy Fornicator" album, which had just overwhelming amounts of stuff going on.

Just don't expect much from the lyrics, because they're really not that good; you can only hate an ex-boyfriend so much.
