Editors’ Notes

When Malcolm Young and his younger brother Angus brought Bon Scott on board as AC/DC's lead vocalist, the slightly older Bon was still known as a bit of pop singer for his work with The Valentines. The Bon that emerged–the true Bon–was a whip-smart hellion with a voice and onstage charisma that could churn both wizened bikers and naive teenagers into a frenzy. His 1980 passing was a huge blow to the band but his life is celebrated in this digital box set. The biggest draw here might be the Live from the Atlantic Sessions, recorded at the New York Atlantic Studios in 1977. You can practically smell smoke rising from the over-worked amps on tracks like "Problem Child" and "High Voltage." Also included is an off-the-rails live set recorded two years later in Paris during the Highway to Hell tour. A handful of demos and early versions add extra flavor (most notably "Dirty Eyes," which is basically "Whole Lotta Rosie" with different lyrics). Bonfire also includes the first album to be recorded after Bon's passing, Back in Black.

Greatest band to ever be! In my opinion, AC/DC is amazing!

Rock On

The best blues and straight up showmanship of rock and roll. Gets better every time the songs are played

My review is for Live from the Atlantic Studios only. Who ever remastered or remixed the album, did a terrible job. I can barely hear Cliff Williams. On my original promo vinyl copy, he comes through loud and clear. Phil's drums sound light. Why are there crowd noises in sections of music where there wasn't on the original? That's pathetic.

Besides disc 1, the rest of Bonfire is fine. I have no problems. Live In Paris is great, Volts is awesome, Back In Black is well, Back In Black. I can't give AC/DC less than five stars.

AC/DC's mammoth power chord roar became one of the most influential hard rock sounds of the '70s, and is now one of the defining sounds of rock and metal. In its own way, it was a reaction against the pompous art rock and lumbering arena rock of the early '70s. AC/DC's rock was minimalist -- no matter how huge and bludgeoning their guitar chords were, there was a clear sense of space and restraint. Combined with Bon Scott's larynx-shredding vocals, the band spawned countless imitators over the next...
