Editors’ Notes

The son of another singer/songwriter, Andy Grammer is one of those cases where the apple has actually fallen a bit far from the tree. His father is Red Grammer, who records music for children. Andy, meanwhile, makes sunny adult alternative songs. His 2012 self-titled debut album kicks off with the bouncy “Keep Your Head Up,” a song as uplifting as its title. Utilizing hip-hop production with a heavy accent on beats and rhythm, Andy brilliantly blends a soulful John Mayer style of singing with rap-rooted phrasing. If he weren’t inflecting with melody before the choruses of the flirty standout “Fine by Me,” those verses would be straight-up hip-hop. His talents for penning the perfect pop ballad surface in “Slow,” where smoldering R&B grooves are matched with a sweeping string section, giving the song a sense of orchestral intensity. And with similarly sentimental songs like the gushing “Ladies” and the folky “Miss Me,” it’s evident that one of his favorite lyrical approaches is to serenade the ladies with words that affirm and encourage both their beauty and their brains.

Love Him

Just discovered Andy and I think he's great. Mix between Gavin Degraw and Jason Mraz, both I love and think are so talented, so I love this mix!

Get used to his name.

Wow. Just bought the album. Get used to hearing his name... This will be on repeat. "You should know better" and "miss me" are insane. 5 stars.

I dare you to not fall in love with this CD! Andy's smooth sound, meaningful lyrics and catchy rhythms make each song irresistable. I fell in love with "Keep Your Head Up" when it was a free download on iTunes in February, but quckly scoured the internet for any of his other songs. I finally got to see him live on tour with the Plain White T's and Parachute and he was amazing! This is a great "blast in the car with the windows down" kinda CD. Mix in some Bruno Mars and Jason Mraz and you have the ultimate summer playlist :)
