Editors’ Notes

Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino found success with “Say Something,” and the climactic pop-rock anthem “This Is the New Year.” With nods to the sunny synths of Owl City ("Cheer Up!”) and the theatrical cadence of The Rocket Summer (“Rockstar”), Is There Anybody Out There? is snappy and dynamic, able to find shape between its stark contrasts of boisterous pop and morose melodies.

Say Something...

I LOVE the song say something. I've loved it ever since I've heard it on sytycd. That was the version without Christina. Then when the next version came out, it was so different than what I was used to. Quite frankly I like the song a lot better without her in it. I could listen to the original over and OVER again, but the new version just doesn't click for me.

Say Something: Prefer the non-Christina version

I'm a fan of Christina Aguilera but, honestly, I thought the addition of her voice was a distraction and did NOT help the song at all. The original was more emotional and haunting. Christina's voice is amazing on the record and I like her in this more simplified and vulnerable state, but the song just doesn't work as a duet. Perhaps if she simply covered the song instead of turning it into a duet, I would have loved it. The original is far better, in my opinion.

People, this is not a review blog for the single with Christina and a great big world. Go post your reviews on the single itself. I get that it's a great song but it's one song of many on this cd. It is refreshing to hear real instruments and real music in a world of synthesization. It saddens me that every review makes no mention of the cd itself. Hello, there are like twelve more tracks. My favorites are rockstar, cheer up and yes, say something. The album is a work if art and these guys should be proud. Not just of the song say something but the WHOLE album..
