13 Songs, 54 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

John Mayer's debut presented him as the wide-eyed prodigy he was. It's a clever bit of counter-programming, because the guitar licks here and seductive tunes like "Your Body Is a Wonderland" are clearly the work of a musician wise beyond his years. If tracks like "No Such Thing" and "Why Georgia" likened him to Dave Matthews and David Gray, the jazz-fusion chords of "Neon" put him in a league of his own.

A real classic

This is a great album, a classic. I bought it in 2001. Actually I bought 8 copies in 2001 and sent it to friends and relatives, because it was clear on this CD that John was a great writer and performer. Even my least favorites (St Patricks Day, Great Indoors, and City Love) are still good songs. If you don't already have this, you should. This is where he started.

Room for Squares

I believe that this is John Mayer's best work right here. It is just so refreshing, yet original. It was before he really started up with the whole rock thing. Just about all of these jams are comforting to listen to.
