Hats Off To Blackalicious...

I'm a jazz studio/live musician. I'll be honest, I pretty much can't stand hip-hop. Seemed like every hip-hop album I've ever heard consisted of 100% synth/sampler production. Programmed drums & bass, un-realistic acoustic guitar sounds from a keyboard, etc. BUT BLACKALICIOUS!!! Well, what can I say... There are certain musical genius minds that always figure out ways to please fellow musicians and average joe listeners with one production. That is usually very hard to do. What maybe interesting to an advanced musician may sound chaotic to the average listener and vice versa. Blackalicious has totally put me in my place, demanding my respect towards the hip-hop genre.

Great Album

most people blow this off as a bad album because of the new techno sound on pretty much all of the tracks and seemingly bad chorus's in some of the songs. well, some of them do have bad chorus's, like World of Vibrations and Supreme People. still this album is worth buying. there's alot of good songs on here. Good Songs: - Powers - Side to Side - Your Move - Give it to you - my pen and pad - the fall and rise of elliot brown - Rhythm Sticks those are the best songs on the album, but really you should get the whole thing. you can't go wrong with blackalicious.

Worst Blackalicious album, but still good.

This album is not very good. It has about 5 tracks that are decent, but I wouldn't recommend this album to anyone new to Blackalicious. If you liked Common's Electric Circus album, then you will probably love The Craft. Blazing arrow is there best album and everyone should listen to that album. I'd be mad if I would have paid more than 2 dollars for this album.

Formed: 1992 in Davis, CA

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Like a few other West Coast rap acts, including the Pharcyde and Jurassic 5, Blackalicious have generally favored what hip-hoppers call the "positive tip"; in other words, their lyrics have often been spiritual and uplifting rather than violent or misogynistic. Like a lot of experimental alternative rappers, Blackalicious can be quirky and eccentric; nonetheless, spirituality is a big part of the group's music. Although Blackalicious weren't formed until the early '90s, their members had known each...
