iTunes Review

Falling in the middle of the towering successes of Off the Wall and Thriller, Triumph achieves a balance between the blissful disco of the former and the sharp-edged pop of the latter. While the Jacksons were still bonded at this time, there is no denying that Michael had become the dominant creative force within the group. He is responsible for writing or co-writing six of the album’s nine songs, and even on tunes by Jackie and Randy (“Your Ways,” “Wondering Who,” “Time Waits for No One”) Michael’s vocals give the music its glowing aura. While there is nothing here as indispensable as “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” or “Billie Jean,” “Can You Feel It,” “Lovely One,” and “This Place Hotel” exude the same urgent passion that made Michael’s solo work so irresistible. Triumph can’t boast the phenomenal popularity of its sister albums, but it is no less golden. Michael Jackson was in the zone, enlivened by the support of his family, and everything he touched during this period alights with a singularly exhilarating inspiration.

A Collection of Hidden Treasures

Although many of the Jackson's albums were somewhat forgettable, this one is not. There are so many wonderful songs on this, and I think that it is a wonderful way for Michael to have finished with the Jackson's to move on with his solo career. Perhaps, as lover of B-sides, my recommendations would not appeal to all listeners, but test drive Time Waits for No One and Give It Up if you are looking for something lush and romantic. This Place Hotel, Can You Feel It and Lovely One are amazing dance tunes that no Michael Jackson collection would be complete without. I remember listening to this album on a cassette tape the year it came out, and it broke (as over-played cassettes tended to do) and I remember using my limited allowance to buy another copy. It is definitely worth a listen and purchase!

Can You Feel It?

Truly, every song in this set is brilliant...Can you feel it, Lovely One, Heartbreak Hotel, and Walk right Now. I originally owned this Album on 8-track tape till I wore it out. Now, owning it on my iPod makes this record still fresh and alive. I never get tired of listening to these wonderful songs! RIP to the great Michael Jackson, your music will forever live on...

Early 80's & Michael Jackson, like PB & J...

The three bonus tracks are offered here without having to buy the whole record, so get them. Upgrading the entire album digitally is not necessary, but it’s worth it for this classic Jacksons’ album. Michael's voice was never better than it sounded from 1977-1982. The last Jacksons LP's, Off The Wall, into Thriller: was an ascension into super stardom that had never been equaled before, and unfortunately, since. We miss “that” Michael Jackson.

Formed: 1966 in Gary, IN

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s

The Jackson 5 were one of the biggest phenomenons in pop music during the early '70s, and the last great group to come out of the Motown hitmaking machine before Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder shifted the label's focus to more individual visions. The Jackson 5's infectious brand of funky pop-soul was a definite departure from the typically smooth, elegant Motown sound, as befitting the group's youth and the dawn of a new decade. That youth, coupled with the merchandising juggernaut that sprang up...
