Album Review

Micky Dolenz tried to repeat the success he had with his first children's album (1991's Micky Dolenz Puts You to Sleep), but is not able to duplicate the wonderful spirit found on that CD. Perhaps it is his choice of material. This CD's title would suggest that this is a collection of Broadway songs, but in fact the majority of songs are from Disney and other classic children's films. There are a couple of Broadway classics such as "Put on a Happy Face," but the rest are all from films. He tackles "Never Ending Story" and "Chim Chim Cheree" and re-records Harry Nilsson's "Me and My Arrow" (which he had recorded with fellow Monkee Davy Jones for the London cast recording of The Point!). The songs are fine, and the arrangements are faithful. Dolenz's voice is pleasant and children will love his take on these classic songs.
