Customer Reviews

Oh, WOW!

What an unbelievable surprise to see that The Mommyheads have reunited and recorded a new CD. The Mommyheads are one of my favorite bands ever, and some of my favorite people in the world. Back in the day, my little record label released a CD by the band, and it was one of the greatest experiences I'd ever had. And I am SO, SO GLAD to see them back, with some of their best music ever. This is exactly what you would hope to hear from a new Mommyheads record - intelligently crafted pop songs with smart lyrics, killer grooves, and outstanding musicianship. Each song is a perfect pop song, and you can't listen to just one - this CD is a body of work that's meant to be consumed in its entirety. Not a weak moment on the record, really. Adam's voice has developed quite a bit more soul, and the band's got a slightly harder edge, but the songs are the same trippy, poppy nuggets that Mommyheads fans have been desperate to hear more of for the past ten years. Welcome back, guys - I've missed you and I hope you're all doing well. This record has made my entire summer. Congrats on a great achievement.

Great Album!

I went to see Cake in LA a long time ago at the Palace or the Paladium (so long i can't even remember which) and was blown away by this group. I couldn't get the music i had just heard out of my head. And i would say four times a year i would just type in Mommyheads in iTunes to see if they had a new album out or working on a collaboration with another group. All i can say is thank you for the wonderful music and i look forward to being surprised with a new album down the line. Keep up the great music! CS

Brilliant Pop-Rock

I loved the Mommyheads every since I heard "Acorn" back in the late 80s. I watched them evolve into a tight rock band that wrote smart, catchy songs. It's so nice to hear "new" music from the band again. I hope they keep going. Fantastic album... up there with "Bingham's Hole" and "Flying Suit."

Biography

Years Active: '80s, '90s

A leading light in the mid-1990s indie rock scene, the Mommyheads were formed in 1987 while Brooklyn-born singer Adam Elk (née Cohen) attended New York City's prestigious High School of Music and Art. The original line-up included the late Jan Kotík on drums and Matt Patrick on bass. The trio released a Wharton Tiers-produced EP, Magumbo Meatpie, on the tiny Sit and Spin label and made a favorable impression on discerning downtown audiences. Within two years, Elk and company released their full-length...
