Album Review

Time takes its cues more from such bands as the Alan Parsons Project and Wings than from Jeff Lynne's fascination with Pepper-era Beatles. Sure, all the electronic whirrs and bleeps are present and accounted for, and Time did spawn hit singles in "Hold on Tight" and "Twilight," but on the average, ELO had begun to get too stuck on the same structure and content of their releases. "The Way Life's Meant to Be" echoes very early ELO hits like "Can't Get It Out of My Head," and the "Prologue" and "Epilogue" segments try and bring about a unifying concept that doesn't quite hold up upon listening all the way through. Time proves to be competent ELO but not great ELO.

Customer Reviews

This is in my opinion the best work ELO ever did. It has really good music and expert musicianship, the album is sort of a theme on time travel, and if you listen to the lyrics of "Yours Truly, 2095" when he's describing his computer girl friend, he could be talking about an iPhone. (Keep in mind when this was released) My kids play this all the time when they are playing with my iPhone, and it's a good listen anytime. You won't be disappointed. Get the bonus track version, which includes "When Time Stood Still", an amazing tune which should have been on this to begin with.

TIME was one of their very BEST

As a young man, I went with my father to see ELO in concert with their TIME album. I do believe the 'ol man had as much fun as I !!! An awesome album, performance and truly a time in music. Jeff Lynne and ELO carried 'Rock and Roll' through the seventies and defined the electronic and classic blend for two decades. Each track represents artistry. Before this album and well after, enjoy the music of the musical master Jeff Lynne. If you love music, if you have enjoyed music in the last forty years, if you like 'rock and roll,' enjoy this album. Jeff Lynne's music will be played for decades and decades to come.

GREAT album

I was introduced to Twilight via the brilliant Daikon IV opening, and I was pleasantly surprised when I bought the album. I’m partial to records that tell a whole story, and Time is one of them. As prescient as it gets for something that was released in 1981.

The Electric Light Orchestra's ambitious yet irresistible fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic iconography rocketed the group to massive commercial success throughout the 1970s. ELO was formed in Birmingham, England in the autumn of 1970 from the ashes of the eccentric art-pop combo the Move, reuniting frontman Roy Wood with guitarist/composer Jeff Lynne, bassist Rick Price, and drummer Bev Bevan. Announcing their intentions to "pick up where 'I Am the Walrus' left off,"...
