Youth

Youth

Released in 2012, “Youth” quickly became a signature tune for British singer/songwriter Foxes (real name Louisa Rose Allen), thanks to its soaring, ache-inflected vocals and sleekly propulsive groove. The song’s desperately hopeful lyric message (“Don’t tell me our youth is running out, it’s only just begun”) gave it a wide appeal beyond the dancefloor, helping to ramp up interest in Foxes’ debut album, Glorious. “Youth” went on to top the Billboard U.S. dance chart and reached the Top 20 in the U.K. as well. Naturally, the tune’s melodic sweep and widescreen flow made it an inviting template for remix wizardry. Among the tracks found here, producer Seamus Haji’s treatment stirs in aquatic trip-hop bounce and bold synth flourishes, while DJ/radio host Danny Howard’s version turns up the electronica oscillations over pounding beats and cascading vocal skips. However “Youth” has been reconceived, it remains a summertime pop anthem that cuts across music genres and dazzles with or without the embellishments.
