Crisp & Soulful

First heard the album in ‘86 driving home at 2 AM in Austin. Local station played it in its entirety commercial free. I was absolutely mesmerized. Had never heard of him before that night but went out & bought the cassette next day. His next album was just as good. He is meticulous which is what sets him apart but make no mistake… His guitar is soulful and in all these years, I’ve not been able to get this or his next, Ah Via it off my mind.

Best album ever

This album changed my life in 1986 and has been a constant soundtrack for my life. Listen to "Trail of Tears" and "Bristol Shore" together and it might just change your life. I recently played the LP version of this and was so nice... The whole album reminds me if the mid 80's vibe in Austin. Simply gorgeous.

EJ really impresses here on all levels; guitar playing, songwriting, and vocals. A really good record from 1986 that should have been promoted better by Capitol (there could have been two or three hit singles at least from this album)!

Like fellow Lone Star State guitarists Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnson blends the rock style of Jimi Hendrix and the blues power of Albert King. Yet Johnson's wide array of additional influences (from the Beatles and Jeff Beck to jazz...
