Full of Life in spite of the lonely title

As a follower of Lowry's music I am completely inspired by this album. It takes Alex Lowry's genuine, humble voice and displays all the colors of a love affair. The electric guitars are evocative and eerie throughout. The drumming, while seemingly minimal, is absolute genius. It takes a great drummer to really build a song. And these songs grow from the earth and lift you to Heaven. I particularly like the new version of "One Thing," which I've heard on other recordings. This version is Amazing!! The vocal harmonies are rich and warm, the new guitar parts really get you in your soul. "Roads" is splendid. Acoustic fingerstyle with dancing melodic accompaniments by the bass. This album also demonstrates how Lowry is experimenting with their sound. "Whiskey" is a great example. It almost has an electronic feel to it, but you always feel the humanity in it. And the addition of mild mix of the banjo scattered over the album gives it a mellow folk feel. If you haven't heard of Lowry or haven't heard this album, It is a must buy. This IS good music when you hear it.

Optimistic Melancholy

Lowry is wicked good at nailing that slightly askew sound. Even the quickest perusal of Love Is Dead will prove "Whiskey"€ is a thing of beauty, starting as displaced folk and ending as one of the best Mercury Rev songs never recorded. Songwriter Alex Lowry gives each song depth and nuance with some tricky and advanced songwriting while the band alternates between extended ruminations and radio-friendly firecrackers, all acoustic and all heartfelt. Despite the sadness in the sound it's not a depressing record, rather an optimistic melancholy. Tracks like "One Thing"€ and "You Die Alone"€ have such a gorgeous flow to them you half expect to physically see the sound waves coming out your speakers. Special mention is deserved by album closer "The Road You Left On,"€ which is such an absolutely perfect winter song I can barely stand it.

Fantastic Group

I got the privilege to meet these guys when shooting on my buddy's film and heard their music through the music video he made which is actually right here on itunes. Awesome album. Reminds me of all my favorite bands into one. Kudos to you guys and hope to see you in Wilmington soon!
