What's New in Version 5.3

The Bionic Edition

This release is all about making 1Password for Mac better, faster and stronger. We've added two-step verification, the ability to call and email with a single click and given some existing features a big power-up! Meet 1Password 5.3, the bionic edition.

Two-steps stronger
Time-Based One-Time Passwords for two-step verification are here! Check out to learn more and get your TOTP on. Bonus: if you own Pro features in 1Password for iOS, your one-time passwords will sync!

Faster communication
◆ Start a FaceTime Audio or Skype call. From 1Password. Simply by clicking numbers stored in Identities.
(if there was a “head explode” emoji, and if Apple allowed emoji in App Store descriptions, imagine it here.)
◆ Ditto for sending emails from addresses in Software Licenses.

+5 power bonus to customization
◆ Custom Fields bonanza!
◆ We added even more Custom Field types, including URL, email, address, One-Time Passwords, date, and month/year.
◆ Secure Notes are now even more versatile: you can add sections and custom fields.

Better date handling
Our developers spent a lot of time fine-tuning 1Password's date handling so that you can traverse the globe without worrying about your passport's expiry date. But seriously, we're really sorry about the date issues. We think we fixed them all, and we have a blog post coming with more information about this issue.

And a better brain
◆ Re-designed the Brain for faster, more accurate filling on websites. The heart was just fine, thanks for asking.
◆ Improved Credit Card and Identity filling on several sites, including Hilton, Cineplex, Drafthouse, Amazon, and PayPal.
◆ The 1Password mini icon has been refined.
◆ Improved searching so that you don't need exact matches for accented characters.
◆ Added support for new languages and updated translations.
◆ Added wildcard support for ignored URLs in autosave.

Many other improvements and fixes based on your feedback.

1Password never prompts you for a review. We value your workflow too much to interrupt it. If you feel generous and have a couple of minutes, please leave a review. It makes a huge difference to us. Thank you in advance!

For anyone debating about switching from iCloud Keychain: Don’t hesitate

I’ve been using iCloud Keychain since it came out and have been genrally happy about it considering it is a complimentary service from Apple. And while it’s acceptable in that regard, it still has some flaws such as not always updating passwords when/if you do change them and the password generater is limted.

1Password has no such limitations. It stores all of your passwords conveniently and in an organized fashioned (no need to dig into Safari Preferences to find out what a password is). Its totally secure and syncs via iCloud to use on iOS (which is a universal app that will work on both iPhone and iPad). In addition to passwords, it can also store secure notes, credit cards and router passwords. its phenominal and works so seemless.

Worth the price? Absolutely. I’m not the most anxious person in the world when it comes to online security but I having online security seems to become increasingly more important daily. With 1Password, I can continue to not having to be consicously concerned with my online security while still being protected. For that, 1Password is more than woth it’s asking price.

I’d been using mSecure for a number of years but decided from something refreshing and new. mSecure is a great vault, but it receives very few updates and now it’s UI is showing it’s age. Anywho…. for all intents and purposes, the way I use password vaults, i don’t see much difference between 1password and mSecure other than the user interface. At their core, they both do the exact same thing. Aside from a couple of sync bugs (i’ve already sent in bug report), 1password is a viable password manager that lives up to its hype. It’s clean, sharp, attractive with a few extra perks not available in mSecure (such as Security Audit). I don’t use 1password mini or browser add-ons (for no particular reason, i may experiment with them later) so i can’t comment on that functionality. Lastly, the support team (both mSecure and 1Password) is phenominal. They care and they help their customers. In the end, I recommend both 1Password and mSecure but your choice comes to pricing and interface; how much are you willing to spend and how important the user interface is.

Great password app…highly recommend

Honestly I wish I could give half star increments….if so I’d give it 4.5 stars. The app does what it says and that’s awesome. It really does work like a charm. I feel like it’s got more functionality than I even use but what I do use does great. The developers seem to be responsive to the community as well. For months now I’ve been wishing i could see the password in larger text, and all of a sudden, there it is. They seem to anticipate needs.

The only thing I find as a negative is it’s expensive to have it on multiple platforms. I use it on iOS, Mac and Windows. That’s a fair amount of money out of my pocket for this app. The main reason I dinged them one star was because of this and because I had originally bought the app directly from them, and then they added functionality but only to the app store app and that means I had to purchase it again. That seemed to be a bad move for loyal customers. Otherwise, I love it.
