Love and so much hate...
since i payed this on my phone i begged the Apple powers that be to allow it to be brought to the computer. imagine the moment when i saw it on the App Store front page! i cried, i laughed, i called my best friend and said i love you, then i called my most hated enemy and begged forgiveness. it was a very good day. fast forward three days later and i’ve been playing the game for quite a while (mostly during breaks at work, occasionally during staff meetings). i achieved the seldom seen 4096 tile! it’s black! what?! i had to go back to work offsite so i closed my computer and took it with me. my computer died in transit along with the progress of the game and that beautiful black tile. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! IT DOESN’T SAVE?! THIS IS 2015! I have text messages from 2013 but i can’t save my progress in this game?!
so be warned, if you want to save your progress you can’t. it won’t do it. it’s just a continual game of searching for power and never restarting your computer. it will cause me to delay all critical updates. peace be to you. you’re going to need it.
Strategy plus luck
Nice game. Addicting. Once you figure out the strategy for playing, it is pretty easy; but make one mistake while daydreaming and that can be the end. It also takes some luck. If the new tiles come up in the right places, it makes getting to 4096 much easier. What is strange about this game is that it doesn’t tell you you’ve won until you get to 4096, not 2048. After 4096, it gets much harder because you have to work with less space. Also, like other reviewers said, you can’t save the game. If you don’t finish, you have to keep your computer on sleep if you want to take it up again. Not a big deal. It’s a very addicting game, and I find myself turning it on now and then even when I should be doing something else.
I love this game. I started with it on the iPhone, then moved to the iPad and played it on both devices for about a year. I was very happy to see a desktop version finally come out. However, why no sounds? I dislike the sounds and frequently mute them, but it would be nice to have them with a way to toggle them on and off manually. (This would be a great feature addition for the iOS version, too.) Thanks for the great game. I play regularly but have not yet benn able to get too far beyond 4096. There are versions of this game with an Undo feature. That ruins the game. This more unforgiving way is far better.
