Description

NOTE - WE ARE HEARING REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH VERSION 2.9 - THESE ARE BEING LOOKED INTO. PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE UNTIL WE REPORT BACK.

Now with In-App Tape Store for iOS 7 users!

Paul Nagle, Sound On Sound Magazine, February 2014 :
"An easy one to sum up, M3000 is an excellent achievement that ably demonstrates how far the iPad has come in a few short years. I'd take it over the mellotrons in my once-revered Emu Vintage Pro or my Roland JV2080 Vintage board any day. Highly Recommended."

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the shipment of the first production mellotron from Streetly Electronics' factory in Birmingham, UK.

To celebrate this historic occasion we are proud to present the 50th Anniversary Edition of Mellotronics M3000, an authentic replication of the legendary M400 tape replay instrument, packed with awesome additional features.

Features :
16 voices in total, 35 chromatic 8 second tapes per voice, almost 200MBytes of samples
All samples are original MKI, MKII and M400 voices from the production tape library of Streetly Electronics
3 new unlooped voices - MKII Vibes, Rhodes and Piano
3 looping modes - unlooped (maximum authenticity), 5s loops (maximum playability) and 3s loops (very high fidelity, minimum memory footprint)
Looped modes support 4 simultaneous voices - A/B/C continuous blend plus additional D voice on chord pads
32 voicebanks each with 12 programmable chord pads

Core MIDI support for class-compliant USB interfaces

What Happened???

After giving this App a stunning review a short while back, I've had a chance to revisit & relive the whole debacle again!
I didn't enjoy spending 4 hours trying to get this app to run after the last update mess! BUT... I thought it was just a one time SNAFU, thru down the cash for ALL of the In App purchases and tried to help the developer in the process.
Fast forward to this latest update… Same friggin' nightmare!
Not digging the pricing structure on the Tape libraries too!
Now with these "Voices" being added to the store… How much cash are you gonna charge when the App itself only cost 12 bucks?!
Really helpful to have a version number and manual included in the App as well.
Asked the developer for a full refund on the Tape Libraries and was told he was busy and I should ask Apple for the refund!
You try to help out and support some developers and they give you the business in return!
Yes, the sounds are great BUT the Beta testing, QC, and support for this app... Terrible!
Thanks for wasting my time Omenie!!! ; )

Only working with Audiobus for now.

Latest version is now only making sound when I run it through Audiobus2.

As a stand-alone app, it now will launch & provide the interface, but won't route any sound through the iPad speaker. (using an iPad2)

Audiobus is your friend for this release. I'm sure Streetly will revise shortly. (Right guys?)

------- previous review --------

Nice sounds, better with an external keyboard

Version 2.8.4 fixes the start-up crash experienced in 2.8.2 - good news!

This is a like-able application, it's fun to play with the classic sounds that were a part of many classic vinyl hits.

I wish the on-screen keyboard interface were a bit more flexible... It stays one one fixed position, which I find a bit awkward. Other synth apps have scrollable & resizeable keyboards which are very useful. I understand the aesthetic they're aiming for, but in this respect, form trumps function, as on-screen the range is limited to the visible keys. I have been able to use a USB midi keyboard and play higher/lower notes, but that's a bit of effort just to hit those keys. The D bank sounds correspond to the Pad Mode, a useful feature that isn't immediately apparent.

Overall, a fine app – Audiobus compatibility makes it playable in an iOS audio workflow, something's its processor Ellatron didn't do - although that app had a tape flutter feature I'd like to see introduced here. The addition of new original sounds from the store is a welcome feature.

updated review

"no sound , erratic behavior ... tried all the tricks resetting reinstalling etc.etc. sadly turning into another POS "toy" "

this was my first review of the app. I have since discovered if you turn off the multi tasking gesture feature in settings all the screwy behavior goes away.... maybe everyone else knew this but not me ! my apologizes
