Ratings and Reviews
Simple app for tracking one expense category
I use 5coins solely for tracking food spending which is the category I am trying to manage closely, reduce spending, and is impacted the most by daily decisions. This app works well for that purpose. I can set my monthly budget and see spending by day, week, and month. I especially like the feature that displays a graphic line chart of projected spending and whether I am likely to be over or under budget for the month. It will also calculate what my daily spending should be to stay on track though that is less useful because food spending tends to be lumpy with periodic spikes from grocery shopping which should reduce daily spend on eating out.
Minus 1 star: What I like least about 5coins is that it doesn’t group tags when reviewing over a month. And it would be nice to see monthly spending by tag to view trends over time. For that I must export the data to a spreadsheet. And another calculation for the graphic that would be useful is past average daily spending which would effectively allocate lumpy grocery spend over the days of the month.
I use Fudget to track overall monthly cash flow budget primarily for income and bill payment. This app’s projection chart and daily spend calculation would not be meaningful applied to mortgages, utilities and other fixed expenses.
Developer Response ,
On monthly view. You can see the grouped tags at the top of the list, if you tap on it. It will filter items belong to that tag for the month.
A little too simple
Not much here. Missing bare minimum features. The UX flow is a “bit” off as well. After trying to find a way to make this app function in a manner that works well, I gave up on it. Simple does not always mean “user-friendly” in fact, too simple is more frustrating for the user. The tag setting isn’t really “tag”... It’s just a title. If I could at least create real tags, group expenses, create recurring expenses/items and have incoming/outgoing or +/- to have a legitimate number to draw against when budgeting... This app would be useful.
Handy way to track cash
I love how simple and quick this app helps me keep track of my cash expenses. Even without receipts I have a record to help balance my budget. $5 here, $2.75 there- it adds up to a lot over time and this makes me aware of where the money goes. I can enter these expenses into my Quicken accounts and have a better idea of where the money is going. Thanks!
