Stroll down the most celebrated thoroughfare in America with your own personal guide by your side.
Fifth Avenue. It's home to the most important stretch of art and antiquities in the world, to New York’s most fashionable shops, most luxurious hotels, most iconic landmarks, and it's the setting of some of the most notorious sex scandals.
The Touchscreen Tour takes you on a lovely stroll from Central Park's Conservatory Garden to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. Just plug in your earbuds, start the app, and you’re off. You can leave your iPhone in your pocket or purse — the GPS-controlled soundtrack will guide, inform, and entertain you. (Of course, the screen also provides the narration and map, as well as photos, addresses, phone numbers and URLs of the attractions along the way.)
“It’s like the love child of Philippe de Montebello at the Met Museum and the GPS lady in your car.”

Why is a Touchscreen Tour better than an old-fashioned guided walking tour or sightseeing bus?
> It’s much less expensive (the others can cost $40 or more per person), and you can split the cost with friends by using the iPhone’s built-in speaker.
> You can travel at your own pace, stop for lunch, visit a museum or shop, even break off part way through and resume later.
> You can preview the tour in detail.
> You can repeat the tour, or sections of it, at no additional cost.
Why the Touchscreen Tour rather than other New York City travel apps?
> Most travel apps are just Wikipedia rehashes or dressed-up databases. The Touchscreen Tour is all-original material, created by professional writers who are native New Yorkers, on top of a patent-pending technology platform.
> The Touchscreen Tour’s audio narration frees your eyes to take in the sights in front of you. It’s much more fun — and much safer — than reading off a screen or a book.
> You don’t have to worry about where you are or what comes next. GPS keeps the app in sync with the real world — and keeps you right on track.

Visitor from Los Angeles
Such a wonderful way to get to know New York City. I took the tour at a leisurely pace, stopping in at a few museums (including the wonderful Guggenheim and the awesome Met), visiting Central Park and the Zoo, sampling street-vendor food, and basically having a real New York experience. This is a great app. I can’t wait till the next Touchscreen Tour comes out. (Updated 6/26/11) To respond to the gentleman who had trouble with the GPS: the app worked very well for me. iPhone GPS, as you may know, i s mainly determined by the mobile-phone reception and triangulation, which can be a problem when you're walking thru a canyon of skyscrapers. In the intro the app makers acknowledge this and explain how to use the manual control if the GPS is balky. I had to advance manually twice (by Tiffany's and by Rockefeller Center), and I still had a great time on my walking tour.
Gps doesn't work
I live on 5th ave. I tried to use the gps downtown about 5 times. It never worked
