Customer Reviews

Pointless to download unless you pay.

I used to enjoy using 8tracks because it was like an online version of itunes or foobar where I could upload my music collection and make playlists out of it, and then I'd listen to them at the gym or while driving to school. I also liked how easy it was to find other user's playlists with the search tags and the different menus for favoriting playlists and songs.

Around two years ago or so ago a playlist listening limit was added, which wasn't that bothersome since there were some ways to get around it. I was moreso disappointed by the loss of the shuffling feature, which would rearrange the order of songs in playlists.

This hour-long limitation on the other hand, has made me disuse this app completely. Maybe it'd be acceptable if it were done on a daily limit, but one hour couldn't last me a day, let alone a week. Anyone who is willing to pay will have an enjoyable experience but I'd rather go back to using an MP3 player instead of paying for yet another monthly subscription service.

This music app was my go-to before I deleted it because it was such a great and unique free service for listening customers who put care and effort into their playlists (as well as others). I would listen all the time and find new music which I fell in love with and now, with all of the limitations and restrictions forced on members (even an older member like I), I found it super frustrating. I could live with the ads and the amount of times you could skip, but once the app began limiting the amount I listen to music for how long and essentially when, it completely ruined the experience for me. You stopped listening to content customers with valuable feedback and instead marketed your app more like a company than service for everyday people who just want to listen to music. Completely saddened by this turnout and lost my interest.

I used to use this app all the time, listening to new music on playlists I never would have found otherwise. It was my go to music app to calm me down to help me sleep and to rev me up when I had work to be done. When the ads were first implemented it was an annoyance but if it meant keeping it free I was fine with it. Then you had to start clicking on the ads to keep listening and it was frustrating, and while it made listening to it at night nearly impossible, I could still listen during to day, so I put up with it. But now?! 1 hour per WEEK?! You might as well shut down the app. $40 a year may not seem like a lot, but there are other apps out there that are still free. 8Tracks, you've lost touch with what made you a great service. It's a shame to see you go down like this.
