Adventure gaming at its finest
Point-and-click adventure games may not seem exciting to you as a genre. But play A Mess O’ Trouble, and you’ll see how well they can be done. Ray Dunakin’s adventure games are filled with entertainment, and are excellent in every way. The puzzles are perfectly balanced; neither too easy to solve, nor too obscure in their solution. The parallel storylines unfold in a way that’s constantly surprising. And the voice of the narrative is smart and funny, with a point of view that’s entirely original; you’ll feel like you’ve gotten to know him a little after playing this game. The illustrations are well-crafted, with the right level of detail to place the player’s focus on what’s important. Ray is a master of the form, and A Mess O’ Trouble is one of his greatest. I highly recommend it for hours of challenging, imaginative fun.
This classic ages well
I played this game with my brother in the 90s on our old Performa. Playing it now brings back so many memories. Ray, you are a mad genius.
The imagination on display is impressive: the different locations have incredible atmosphere, and there are *tons* of places to visit. Ray infused this game with a lot of personality and humor, and the puzzles are hard enough that you feel pretty satisfied when you solve them. This game and MYST are the two games that I remember most from that time, and in spite of the cruder graphics simple interface, this game goes toe to toe with MYST in terms of how much fun it delivers.
Keep it up, Ray! You keep remastering these things and I’ll keep giving you my money. And how about you finish Morphworld? That would blow my inner twelve-year old’s mind.
They don’t make them like they use to!
I’m sad to see there’s not more reviews of this great game! I know perhaps this type of world builder games may not appeal to youngsters, as it really needs you to use your marbles to get through it, but…you youngsters should really try it! Thinking is good for your brain!
I really enjoy escape games, but most of them you can kind of get through by luck of the “click.” But not AMOT, it’s complex, challenging, it’s got a story, and it really forces you to figure it out. The worlds of AMOT is huge…. Just when I think I’m almost done…but wait, there’s more! Well worth the $4.99!
And the best part is, Ray, the creator, is super nice. He actually lets you email him if you’re really stuck and need a little hint. Thanks, Ray!
