Description

a11yTools is a collection of HTML Web Accessibility Testing Tools in one location in an Extension for Safari used for quick and easy Accessibility testing. Run your favorite Accessibility testing tool and then take a screenshot showing the a11y error to developers and designers.

a11yTools is a one-at-a-time testing tool where you pick the HTML Accessibility element or feature you’re testing once-per-page rather than running all tests together. Test and results can be stacked on top each other e.g. to show both Headings and Image Alt Text Properties.

How To Use a11yTools: Visit the webpage you want to test then click the a11yTools button and add the a11yTool you want.

Reset the Page to remove the a11yTools output without reloading the site.

This app will be updated on a continuous basis with new testing tools and features added over time. Current features are listed below.

A wonderful tool for the #A11Y toolbox

I use this fabulous tool to spot check pages for some of the more common accessibility issues. It’s great being able to provide our developers with marked up screenshots and or PDFs when submitting accessibility bugs. There are free tools available which provide the same functionality, however none of them are packaged with such an easy to use UI. The developer of this tool/extension is also extremely responsive to feedback regarding changes, enhancements, andsupport requests.

Not working

So far I have not been able to get it to validate web pages designed on my local desktop. If this tool cqan only check published sites I can do that with a host of free tools.
as a designer this is not functional.

Developer Response

That's correct, Apple does not allow Safari Extensions to run on local html files. You can create a localhost web server with Terminal visit the directory run "python -m SimpleHTTPServer" then open the same local file in your browser at http://0.0.0.0:8000 and you can now run a Safari Extension on the local HTML content.

FYI: You can use my JavaScript Bookmarklets from http://www.pauljadam.com on local html files and that will work unlike Safari Extensions.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!
