A440 Tuner is a simple app that gives a musician a reference Concert A (440MHz) pitch in any combination of 3 different forms: as played by a real oboe, as played by a synthesizer modeled oboe, or as a sine wave.
This app is not a meter or strobe or chromatic tuner - it simply produces the Concert A reference pitch.
While this may seem limited from the viewpoint of one who needs to tune by meter, it fits the needs precisely for a concert musician who is trained to tune their instrument from a Concert A.
The oboe was chosen for this app because in an orchestra setting it is typically the oboe that gives the reference pitch at the beginning of rehearsals and concerts.
Great if you know how to use it
If you're a musician who can tune well by ear, then this little app is perfect. It just plays an A. If you're a beginner, or you haven't gotten comfortable with tuning by ear yet, than you're better off buying a tuner app that uses the mic to tune electronically.
I used it to tune my violin at home- works just as well as an expensive tuner. Great for practicing at home or emergency tuning on the go.
This is a great idea, true, and especially for free. My only complaint is why is there vibrato on the oboe tone? Doesn't that defeat the purpose if it's not a straight 440? The synth tone is solid however, nice app for free.
