Featured in Apple's 'Special Education' and 'Accessibility' collections of recommended iPad apps, aacorn AAC is the revolutionary assistive communication technology for non-verbal and speech delayed children, with innovative never before seen features costing much less than competing apps! Celebrated as a genuine break-through by parents, educators and speech therapists and used by thousands of families, schools and speech professionals worldwide!
AACORN replaces the outdated grid of folders layout used by traditional AAC apps and devices (where far too often children can’t find the words they need), and introduces a radical new research-based design for children that is much easier to use and -unique to aacorn- actually helps children learn language! Here is just some of the feedback from leading speech experts:
+ "aacorn signals a revolution in the way we provide AAC support to children.. The first to really capitalize on the strengths of the iPad" - Professor Sue Fletcher-Watson (University of Edinburgh).
+ "LOVE the word tree! If I needed an AAC this is the kind of interface I would want!" - Dr Robin Parker (PraacticalAAC)
+ "I have used every AAC app, In 25yrs aacorn is the most innovative approach I have ever seen! The only one to also teach grammar and expand their use of language" - J.Thompson (SLP)
+ "This innovative AAC app really could change the way we introduce, teach and model AAC systems to early communicators." - Amanda Hartmann (SLP)
Through a unique system of branching pathways we call the Word Tree™ your child makes a word choice and new branches with suggestions for the next word in a sentence present themselves AUTOMATICALLY. No More ‘hunting and pecking’ for hidden single words, and the first aac to focus on the relationships/connections between words!! The difference is amazing and can only be found in aacorn!
aacorn bridges the huge gap between laminated picture cards (PECS) and complex AAC apps designed for adults. It can often be more engaging for children, but is also incredibly powerful, making communication more accessible to children who cannot yet type or spell or who find the older grid-based systems so frustrating.
• Learns to PREDICT what a child wants to say!
The only AAC app with this unique and powerful feature - opening communication to users of all ages and abilities.
• Designed especially for CHILDREN
Incredibly easy to learn and setup. Makes makes full use of the features of the iPad (not like other AAC apps that look and act exactly like 20year old devices).
• Adapts to ALL cognitive abilities and needs
The first ‘intelligent’ AAC software. aacorn recognises each child's needs and adapts itself so that even pre-literate children can make and speak complex sentences!
• TEACHES Language and Grammar
Aacorn helps children develop language by visually modelling the 'relationships' between different words! This is UNIQUE to aacorn and very often means children form sentences MUCH faster and expand their vocab AND understanding!
• REAL Childrens Voices
A child isn’t a robot and so aacorn comes with real children's voices. Choose between boy and girl English US, UK, and Australian voices, speaking very expressive words. Or use the built-in recording studio to record new voices.
• Grows with YOUR Child.
Change almost anything: create new words and categories, modify or disable existing ones, save favourites, add photos, even use the built-in drawing tools to personalise things.
aacorn can and is being used by even the youngest or most delayed communicators, and delivers a number of world-firsts for children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, MS, Apraxia, developmental delays or difficulty learning language.

Great AAC app!
My 8 year old daughter is completely nonverbal and has limited communication. We've tried other AAC apps without much success. We decided to give AAcorn a shot and took advantage of the free trial period. As a parent I find it easy to use and program. My daughter is more interested in it than the other apps we've tried....it's interactive and child friendly and I think it seems more like a game to her. There is also support available if questions come up. I'm looking forward to seeing where AAcorn will take my daughter! I would definitely recommend this app to families looking to increase communication!
Love our AACorn!
Cannot say enough good things about this app! We have been very happy with AACorn for our 3yo daughter w/22q11.2 deletion syndrome & suspected Apraxia. She can combine words & make requests much easier with AACorn than Proloque2go. The support is UNBEATABLE with AACorn, too. Every question is answered very quickly & feedback is truly heard & applied in updates. If only more SLP's would use AAcorn for kids who are not quite ready for other devices/apps!
A dream come true!
My daughter is severely delayed due to a rare genetic disorder. She is non-verbal, limited ASL signs, and hopeless on AAC apps or devices.... Until now!
This app is everything to pre-literate children. The predictability this app has is what I fell in love with, compared to many other apps out there on iTunes. The child's voice was also another selling point for my hopes of this being a better fit for my daughter. The voice is so sweet and calm. The usual computer generated voices tend to be strong, loud, and just unpleasant. Not relatable, or understood by children like my daughter.
The search bar, categories, settings, ability to add words, pictures, change audio to ALL words, the graphic, savings a sentence to favorites to quickly access and of course, Buddy are what make this app stand apart and surpass many other apps in all areas.
Buddy is a delightful little robot that my daughter loves to push, (but can be locked to prevent from him popping up verses text bubble being pushed to repeat a word or sentence).
The search bar is the best for everyone who uses this app within our family- speech therapist, occupational therapist, ABA therapist, dad and even old brother! Just hit bottom left hand corner tab for categories, swipes down for search bar and type. That easy. Other apps I looked into, you had to watch a YouTube video to figure out how to even search for a word!
One of the hundreds of features I love is the adding words, changing audio and personalized photos. My son has added his own words for his sister with his voice recording. He loves trying to help his sister and she adores hearing him coming from her app. One of her "favorites" is: "I love my brother." In my sons voice.
I swore off any and all AAC devices or apps, until one came along that met my requirements I wanted for my daughter. I never thought this day would come given all the other options out there that are not comparable to the AACORN app. But I'm glad someone proved me wrong!
I'm elated someone saw the flawed systems out there through their own children's experience and delays. Whom then wanted to change this communication barrier for children like my daughter with no real voice and no option for AAC/computer voice to communicate.
