Excellent Content, Spoty Performance

BlindguyNW

As a blind tech enthusiast, I was very pleased to discover the existence of this magazine recently, and even more pleased that there was a way to read it on my iPhone. The treasure trove of information and glimpses into tech history are remarkable, as is the app's design with VoiceOver and accessibility in mind.
There is only one concern which prevents me from giving the app five stars, and that is the somewhat strange performance problems I experienced. I browse the back issues section freely, and occasionally would run into a situation where VoiceOver would fail to activate an item I tapped. In the most extreme cases this would require me to toggle VoiceOver off and on, and even this didn't work consistently. I could generally restore functionality by tapping the status icons at the top of the iPHone screen, but, again, this isn't reliable. If this occasional problem were fixed, I would feel justified in giving this app five stars, for content and interface alike.

Great collection of articles

Access world has made available all of its helpful articles, back to the year 2000, in this easy to navigate app. You can search by year and then by month. Since each issue only contains between five and ten articles or reviews, it is not an onerous process to search through past issues for the preceding few years. Just like searching Consumer Reports, it is unlikely that you would want to search more than a few years prior to the current year as technology updates so frequently. For newly visually impaired persons, this is a wonderful resource (and shorter than a book) to learn what is being discussed in the accessible technology world.

Now includes a search engine

I downloaded the app this morning and made a quick test of the search engine. Reviews of previous versions of this app complain that there was no search capability and that has changed. A search for product reviews for Daisy readerscame up with some relevant hits. The app works fine with the speak page function that is incorporated into iOS 9. My main concern and the reason for the three-star rating is that there was no indication of the date our issue for the individual articles when using the search engine. If that is fixed, I would give this a four star rating.
