Ratings and Reviews
This app is confised & all WET!
I switched to Accuweather app from iPhone’s standard Weather app b/c there was some sort of bug going on w/ that app & my phone—I wasn’t properly getting severe weather alerts. (We had horrible flash floods & I didn’t get a warning until it was already in the midst of the torrential rain & flooding.) So I switched to this app. Now, I do get warnings—but too many often inaccurate ones. I live in Catonsville and it told me there was a ‘coastal’ flood warnings for my town. This is ridiculous, b/c we are nowhere near the coast!
Right now, I woke up this morning to yet another torrential rain storm—we’ve had them all week. This morning’s had not been predicted last night. I turned on my phone to look at the app to check it’s weather report. The main screen showed only “some clouds” & the precipitation monitor showed 0%. The radar showed no rainstorm. And the hourly also only showed partial clouds. Yet, the rain gauge said “rain ending in 17 minutes”! Clearly the tail isn’t talking to the head! What a totally confusing disconnect! Totally out of touch with reality of the weather here . Only after about 25 minutes later, as the storm was mostly subsiding, did it finally show on the main screen that a thunderstorm was going on. But the hourly still wasn’t updated.
Needless to say, I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the “Accu”Weather app!
Just replaced my favorite weather app
I have been a die hard user of Weatherbug until now. I noticed my girlfriend using AccuWeather and really liked the precipitation predictor dial. I downloaded AccuWeather and now I rarely use Weatherbug except for radar feature which is a bit more sensitive than AccuWeather’s. The precipitation dial is very accurate, if it says it’s going to rain in 15 minutes, it’s accurate 99% of the time plus or minus a few minutes. My only wish is that it had a map for lightning location like Weatherbug. When I’m out joyriding on my motorcycle I want to know which direction to go to avoid lightning or if it’s just time to head home because a big electrical storm is coming and there’s no way to avoid it. That being said, I’ve tried many weather apps and this one is hands down the best I’ve found not only for accuracy but also because of the robust number features it has and how the information is presented in the UI. Did I mention the precipitation dial is great. There’s nothing to lose here. Try the free version and if you abhor ads as much as I do, buy it for the reasonable one time price. I doubt you will be dis-app-pointed.
So so app
I was a regular user of Storm, but they deleted the ad-free option so I tried AccuWeather. Nope, It’s worse. The forecast, regardless of the name is no better than any other weather forecast, which is to say poor. A few observations: There is no option that I’ve found for displaying wind speed. The cloud cover is truly odd, lighter cloud cover has darker opacity and heavier cloud cover is lighter opacity, huh? That’s the opposite of what it should be. I’ve got the Premium version and it offers a 25 day forecast, well isn’t that special. The weather forecasters have trouble with tomorrows weather and they think they can forecast 25 days out? For entertainment purposes only. I get FAR too many severe weather notifications, many more than I get in Storm. Most of them are repeats, if a winter weather advisory is posted at 9:00 AM I get a notification right away, if I turn the screen off I will find another notification the next time I open it, for the same original advisory. Once is enough, thank you! Finally, the radar is pretty worthless, sometimes there’s nothing there when there should be, other times while playing the past couple of hours some of the “slices” are missing so the rain/snow is hurry jerky. When I check Storm’s radar it’s much better. Sorry, but this app is pretty sad.
