WHAT’S NEW IN DRAW 4.7
Choose how double-tap works with your Apple Pencil (2nd Generation)
We’ve added a preference option to control double-tap on the latest iPad Pro with the new Apple Pencil. We think you’ll love adding this time-saving feature to your painting experience, and they even work in full-screen drawing mode. Choose from one of these options under your iPad’s settings for Adobe Draw:
• Switch between brush and eraser - If you find yourself using these two tools a lot, this option lets you work faster.
• Switch between current and last used brush - this allows you to use two brushes at once and switch quickly between them.
• Activate the color picker - If you want a quicker way to pick a color from the canvas, select this option. You can use this in full-screen mode, too!
• Zoom in or out - Zooming in and out of the canvas has never been easier! With this option, double- tap to view the full artwork, and double-tap again to zoom in and work on a detailed region of your painting.
• None - Don’t want to use this feature? That’s cool. Use this to turn the double-tap option off.
Send to Printer:
Now you can send your work directly to the printer from within the app. Simply tap on the share icon, select SHARE -> Image. You’ll be prompted on where to share. Be sure to select Print. Happy printing!
Ratings and Reviews
Mighty for the small projects
As far as the quality and ease of use, this app takes the cake. I’ve struggled to get into digital art because the apps are usually so unfriendly to users, but simplicity and easy to follow tutorials really helped with this app. There’s not a lot of tool options, but they’re all the tool types that I really need. Plus the fact it easily converts to a timelapse is a awesome plus. However, I am sad to say I’m currently looking for a different app as I quickly outgrew my use for this one.
If all you plan to do is sketch something quick, this is the app for you. But any real project worth time and effort causes awful lag. I have my iPad Pro up to date, as well as the app, but my larger projects just can’t be supported by the functions of the app. Sometimes it’s a few second delay for a single line to show, opening and closing layers takes ten seconds to load, the fact that if you forget to “convert to timelapse” every few minutes then it will never load, or the zooming/rotating taking another ten seconds to load. It’s bad enough I don’t want anything more to do with this app anymore. Additionally, I’ve learned to work around the lack of a smudge or blur tool, but there are lots of times it would really be perfect for the looks I’m trying to create.
An essential part of my workflow but needs some tweeks
I use this app non stop. This is my 5th year I think? It’s come a long way and I love it. The time lapse feature is amazing for tutorials.
I want to give this 5 stars but two things are holding it back. I’d like to be able to fuzz the edges of my brush. And I’d love to be able to consolidate stokes into one shape. The reason for this is when I upload the work into the desktop illustrator, it is labeled a “draw layer” and each stroke is its own shape. This makes it very difficult to add finishing touches like gradients etc. strange since the ability to finish projects in illustrator is part of the advertising. I suspect there might already be a fix for it. But the complete lack of tutorials on adobe learn or the forums makes it hard to guess what that might be. Not being able to edit draw layers in the main illustrator is really hurting my workflow. To the point where if it’s a serious project, or one I might need several versions of, I don’t use adobe draw at all. Which is a real shame because it’s nicer to use than the blob brush.
I enjoy doodling on this app. It has the familiarity of adobe art programs I am comfortable with. I wish you could edit image layers like adobe sketch. You can only place and resize image layers with this program. They should just combine all the features of adobe art programs into one. It seems silly to have such minor differences spread across several programs. The velocity and pressure brush settings are not the most intuitive or user friendly. I think average users would struggle to understand how to work them well. I still give it 5 stars because of the quality of the program and company, and the fact that it’s not some ripped off hack ware advertising and pushing stupid sales on you like most art programs for free. Other art programs only let you use like 5% of the features and then obnoxiously push to sell you on the actual functional uses and features. You can actually use this program well! A breath of fresh air in today’s world of app scammers with their thousands of bot-created 5-star reviews in broken English. :)
