Adobe Illustrator Line

By Adobe

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

A modern approach to drawing and drafting, Adobe Illustrator Line lets you draw straight lines, geometric shapes, perspective views, and more.

Line reimagines traditional drawing tools like rulers, T-squares and shape templates for the mobile world.

Line was built from the ground up with Adobe's new Creative Cloud pen and digital ruler in mind. Hardware design informed software design for a fully integrated drawing experience.

Even if you prefer drawing with your finger, Line's unique tools open a new world of drawing and drafting.

Inspired by its hardware counterpart, Touch Slide is the most elegant precision drawing interface to come to mobile apps.
Choose from hundreds of shapes to trace or stamp, from basic shapes like lines, circles and triangles to more complex stamps such as Fashion Figures, Desert Flora and User Interface elements.
Easily align shapes using on-screen smart guides and snapping.

Line strikes just the right balance with the essential tools for drawing and rendering: two pencils (2H, HB), two ink pens (.25mm, .5mm), two rendering markers (brush tip, chisel tip), and an eraser—all of which are customizable.

Interact with Line intuitively, with natural gestures.
• Two-finger swipe left to undo, right to redo.
• Pinch zoom.
• Two-finger pan to move the canvas without zooming.
• Three-finger long press to scrub through the drawing history.
• Double-tap to stamp shapes.
• Long press to change brush settings or colors.

Post a Work in Progress on Behance and get immediate feedback on your ideas directly in Line. Share updates as new revisions.

Your Projects are automatically backed up to Adobe Creative Cloud. Import your reference images from Creative Cloud and color your designs with your favorite color themes. Take your concepts further in Illustrator, Photoshop or another desktop application.

Best Linework, Needs More from Vectors

This app is close to being a perfect tool for architects as a sketch pad. But like so many others, it falls short in some way. In the case of Line, it's missing the ability to either layer or overlay on sketches. Trace paper is still arguably the most important tool in the designer's arsenal.

While we are at it, the fact that this app is a vector based tool makes me wonder why there is no ability to select and modify linework. I don't even need Bézier curves. I need basic copy/cut/paste, rotation, scaling and moving. It Could use the ability to change the width, color or stroke type (marker, pencil, etc.) too. Almost no one gets this right though.

All that being said, the linework in Line is the only linework that comes out looking like it's from my hand. Most other app algorithms don't quite capture my stroke as accurately. The grids, snaps and ruler are also excellent. The tools are actually useful and while they mimic analog instruments, they do so without being tacky or intrusive.

Disappointments drag down the good features

A vector app that doesn't support editable Bézier curves, selections, and transformations seems almost beside the point, at least for the work I do. The clipboard is massively frustrating to work with. Plus you can't delete anything once it's been added; you have to wait for it to cycle off. (Gee, Adobe, couldn't you have given us a heads up on that?)

Though on the whole, this round of Adobe's mobile efforts surpass the previous set by a mile, the vector offerings have been disappointing in action, even with Ink and Slide. They're just good enough at what they do to make the limitations that much more obvious and frustrating.

Such a basic program should be free

I was all excited to get started. I was sadly let down by this hardly intuitive app. Who's idea was it to use two fingers to erase? The same two fingers to zoom in. Dumb.
In addition, while in perspective mode, good luck drawing odd roof pitches. You should be able to set those little green dots. Way-points would be nice. The short is, this app need so much work it's barely worth the time, yet alone any money. How can it be so far off from say...procreate? Maybe they should have a meeting and play with procreate to see what potential an app can have.
