Edge Works, But Needs Some Fixin’s
This app is brilliant in concept, and has worked for me since the beginning. There are a lot of negative things people are saying, but this app has few neat tricks.
I usually have this set up on two different devices, my iPhone 5S and iPad 2nd gen. In regards to the refresh and live previews, in my experience you have to be a little patient. Now to be fair, it does take far too long to refresh the pages, so probably more patience than people in the industry are accustomed to. I thought it could be my internet connection, but a lot of reviewers seem to be experiencing the same thing. Now, within the Chrome pop-up extension there is a hard refresh button so if waiting for things to update get tedious you can use that button.
There are other reviews that address the unclear instructions, and I agree with their thoughts, but once it is set up, it works flawlessly. Another nifty feature is that from the Chrome Extension, you can request screenshots from your devices and it will save it right to folder on your computer!
I hope that Adobe continues to update and develop this app, but as of writing the last update was posted July 12th, 2013. Despite all the flaws pointed out, this app is very usefully and definitely worth your time!
Very useful, but with caveats
I feel like I have give a 5 star to compensate for the unhelpful, anti-Adobe crowd, but it's really more of a 4. I'm really liking the strides Adobe is taking and Edge is a great alternative for those who find services like Browserstack and ghostlab cumbersome. The main issue I have is it doesn't display AJAX'd content a lot of the time and I find myself pasting large chunks of what would be externally loaded HTML into prototypes just so I can test properly. Also, kills my new iPhone 6 battery in no time. Keep a charger handy.
Other reviewers are correct that there's a bit of a time lag in page reloads. That said, I use this app on both an iPhone 5s and an iPad2 constantly during mobile development. It provides accurate mirroring of the site on the device, and the ability for quick screenshots is valuable. Excellent development tool.
