Worst update yet
The new update has a very cluttered feel to it. Thankfully the home view is still present, however they completely botched it. It used to be that it would show the layout of your home and the placement of the sensors. The sensors would be interactive. When a door/window was closed the sensor dot would illuminate green, open illuminate yellow, or if an alarm triggers it would illuminate red. This was great because you could leave the home view on with an iPad and if the alarm went off you could see where the breach was instantly. Also, when arriving or leaving your home you could disarm the alarm with your phone and see if someone was entering your house from a a different door while the alarm is off. My home is spread out with 48 sensors so I like to know what's happening on the other side of the house. Now these sensors are not interactive, they just show where your sensors are, but not what condition they are in. I really hope they fix this, it was what made adt stand out over the other companies' platforms. Not only did they screw that up but they also just increased my monitoring fees, awesome.
New July15 version ruined camera view
This latest upgrade ruined the camera view. Who usability tested this? Anyone?? First, it takes away the full view by place part of the ADT app over the view so part of the display is obscured. I can then click and WAIT to then see the full view that I used to have. Second, a previous update had added awesome functionality of being able to use your fingers to expand and contract the picture 'view' to see just like basic iPhone or Apple functionality and that was awesome but now that is gone. That was great when you saw something and wanted a closer inspection of what it might be. Why update something that is functioning well? Please bring back the full view unobstructed. Please bring back the functionality of being able to zoom in and zoom out. Thank you. I will then re-review and increase the rating back. Until then I cannot because the camera is my main concern on the app to see what is going on and it has to be fast and I don't have time with my connection to have to wait for log in and then wait again for another view.
Nice update. The Nest integration was a welcome surprise.
In general, I like the UI. The “Home View”, though, used to be a little more central to the design of the app (and having spent the time to layout my house, I liked that UX). But, I guess most people wouldn’t go through all of that work, so I understand the shift in the UI. But “Home View” now feels like a curious digression, rather than an integral part of the app. And the “lets show you an alphabetical list of the sensors” seems almost anachronistic in comparison (especially when you have a ton of sensors).
A minor technical observation: When you go to “Home View" (the visual layout of the house), the icons for the sensors are weirdly fuzzy. It looks like a low-res graphic that is being scaled to some size it wasn’t designed for. There’s an opportunity to make that a little better.
Finally, a wish list item: I really wish you supported Touch ID. This is especially important because I use strong passwords on things like my security system. Any the 4 digit PIN seems to need to be reset after every 30 days (or every app update, it feels like), so I’m periodically going through a super cumbersome process of going to my password management app, get my strong password for Pulse, etc. I want it to be secure, but I don’t want it to be painful.
